Living life with people can be stressful and even overwhelming at times. Unmet expectations, miscommunication, life events outside of our control, not to mention our own poor decisions…all these and more can hinder healthy relationships. 40-50% of marriages reportedly end in divorce. And recent evidence related to, if not directly caused by, the recent quarantine has sadly shown a considerable increase in that number. Many of us have simply not been equipped to handle these stressors in a healthy and productive way.
It takes work, a daily decision to reignite our commitment to one another. And we don’t always receive the best guidance on how to make that happen. Couples counseling is not about getting advice, being told what to do, or determining who is right and who is wrong. What is important is that couples have an atmosphere in which they can explore their struggles together, an environment that is safe, empathetic, and non-judgmental. As a husband and father of three, I understand first-hand those struggles that come with marriage and parenthood.
